Art terapija je psihoterapeutska metoda kojom klijenti, uz pomoć terapeuta koriste razne likovne ali i druge dostupne materijale za:

Tko sve može raditi kao terapeut?
Terapeut može biti iz raznih struka (profesor likovne kulture, edukacijski-rehabilitator, psihoterapeut…), koji posjeduje osnovna znanja iz likovne umjetnosti:
Također mora imati određena znanja o ljudskom razvoju, fiziologiji, psihičkom i mentalnom razvoju čovjeka te mora posjedovati znanja o raznim metodama savjetovanja klijenata.
Art terapija može biti izvrstan alat uz pomoć kojeg se klijent može bolje integrirati u svoju okolinu i sa njom komunicirati bez upotrebe verbalne komunikacije.
Stoga je ova vrsta terapije pogodna za djecu s posebnim potrebama a naročitu onu iz spektra autizma te razvojnim poremećajima.
Osim upotrebe likovnih materijala (drvenih boja, vodenih boja, glinamola, plastelina..), art terapija omogućava primjenu i upotrebu raznovrsnih dostupnih tehnika kao što su: 3D, miješani mediji (muzika i likovno stvaralaštvo zajedno), fotografija te je naglašena važnost upotrebe što više različitih materijala prilikom samog stvaranja umjetničkog djela.
Djeca s posebnim potrebama kod kojih je Art terapiju poželjno provoditi jer je dokazano da ima izrazito terapeutski učinak na njih:

A 1 Week Erasmus+ Teacher Training course
Art related activities are powerful means of personal development, among young students and across their life span. Art has a strong therapeutic power and is strictly connected to our body: art activities can influence blood pressure and breathing. Art also promotes self-esteem and self-expression, empathy, self-knowledge and self-regulation, time and space management skills.
Art facilitates mental and emotional growth. As a matter of fact, it can be a great tool to promote integration and communication among students, especially the ones affected by autism, attention deficit disorders, learning disabilities etc.
The course presenting the therapeutic power of Visual Arts through first-hand experimentation of various art techniques such as painting, 3D, collage, mixed media, photography. In addition, teachers will were involved in group and role-playing activities related to the important role of art in the case of students with special needs.
Participants were involved in an active learning process, focusing on personal experience and self-expression, combining cognitive and emotional elements to ensure long-lasting retention of new knowledge.
